Choir Festivals in Ireland: A Firsthand Look at the Fingal Festival Experience
May 4, 2026
If a choir festival in Ireland is on your radar, the Fingal International Festival of Voices should be at the top of your list. A Fingal Festival tour perfectly encapsulates what makes Ireland such a special destination for music groups: world-class performance opportunities, rich cultural immersion, and just the right amount of adventure.
Why Consider Choir Festivals in Ireland?
Ireland offers a rare combination of musical excellence and warm, welcoming audiences. Festivals like the Fingal Festival create meaningful performance opportunities while allowing your group to connect with Ireland’s deep cultural roots.

The Fingal Festival takes place in beautiful Balbriggan.
A Narrative from the Road: Our Fingal Festival Tour
We recently returned from an unforgettable tour with the Chester River Chorale. We kicked off the journey in Dublin, easing into the experience with a panoramic city tour. It’s one of our favorite ways to help groups get their bearings (and energy levels!) right after an international flight. Highlights included a visit to Trinity College and a chance to see the stunning Book of Kells, a moment that always feels a bit like stepping back in time.
We then had the opportunity to venture beyond the city into Ireland’s lush countryside. At Powerscourt House & Gardens, the group wandered through immaculately designed landscapes, while Glendalough offered something quieter and more reflective. Nestled in a glacial valley, this ancient monastic site gave singers the chance to explore winding trails, historic ruins, and peaceful lakes, which was a perfect counterbalance to the energy of the festival ahead.

The Musical Experience: Fingal Festival Highlights
The heart of the tour, of course, was the Fingal Festival itself, and it delivered in every way.
The Chester River Chorale competed in the 2026 festival and earned a coveted spot in the Grand Prix Concert, ultimately taking home 2nd place. For many singers, this was a career-defining moment: performing alongside international ensembles and being recognized at such a high level.
Beyond the competition, the musical moments continued with a lunchtime recital at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin. This iconic venue has incredible acoustics, not to mention stunning surrounds. The group also participated in a friendship Concert in Killarney with the Kerry Union Chorale, fostering international connection and cultural exchange.

Extending the Journey: Exploring Ireland Beyond the Festival
One of the biggest advantages of participating in choir festivals in Ireland is the ability to turn the event into a broader cultural tour.
After the festival, our group continued west, exploring some of Ireland’s most iconic regions:
- Galway, with its lively arts scene and colorful streets
- Limerick, rich in history and local character
- Killarney, a gateway to natural beauty and traditional Irish culture
Standout moments included standing atop the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher, exploring the landscapes of Killarney National Park, and watching a traditional sheepdog demonstration.

The sheep dog demonstration is always a favorite activity for travelers.
What Makes the Fingal Festival Stand Out?
If you’re comparing choir festivals in Ireland, Fingal offers a particularly strong mix of structure and flexibility. Here’s what directors tend to love most:
- High-quality adjudication and competitive opportunities
- Prestigious performance venues
- Built-in cultural experiences that enhance the tour
- Opportunities for meaningful musical exchange with local ensembles
It strikes a balance between excellence and accessibility, making it ideal for both advanced and developing groups.
A Unique Bonus: Directors’ Orientation Trip
One of the most valuable (and fun) parts of working with us on this program is the Directors’ Orientation Trip. Directors have the opportunity to travel through Ireland, preview hotels and venues, and experience the itinerary firsthand. It’s a chance to fully envision how your group will experience the trip, while also enjoying Ireland’s charm for yourself.
