FRIENDSHIP CONCERT IN VIENNA

Our friendship concerts are a featured experience on our tours and are at the heart of our mission to foster cultural connections through music. We benefit from a vast international network in the choral world built over our thirty years' experience of helping choirs share their music both in the United States and abroad. Your choir will share a venue and a concert program with a host choir from the region. Your singers will have the chance to hear their host choir's repertoire (often showcasing local musical styles) and to share your own repertoire in turn. Fellowship time usually follows the friendship concert, giving both choirs the chance to mingle and enjoy the camaraderie of creating cross-cultural connections through a shared love of music.

As Austria’s capital and largest city, Vienna is its primary cultural, political and economic center. Known for its charming quality of life and extensive musical traditions, character and history, Vienna is, and has always been, a destination for travelers seeking an experience filled with breathtaking architecture, exceptional museums and cathedrals, delicious foods and longstanding musical venues. All of these elements combine to create a magical trip to a city rich in beauty, culture, and sophistication.

ST. PETER’S CHURCH

Peterskirche, or St. Peter’s Church, is a Roman Catholic church located on Vienna’s Petersplatz. The current structure is thought to occupy the oldest Christian, sacred site in Vienna; different churches have stood there since the 4th-century. Peterskirche is known for its ornate Baroque architecture. Its interior contains 18th-century design features such as frescoes, altarpieces, and gilded carved wood. The church is known among music lovers for its afternoon concert series.

GUMPOLDSKIRCHEN

Gumpoldskirchen is an 800-year-old village in Lower Austria famous for its hillside vineyards and traditional Heurigen wine taverns. An evening at a Heurigen is full of local food, wine, and music in a cozy atmosphere. Food is served family-style, and the scene is always lively, whether you drink wine or not!

Day 1: Depart for Austria

Depart North America for Vienna, Austria.

Day 2: Welcome to Vienna!

Welcome to Vienna!Enjoy an introduction to Vienna, Austria's glorious capital, during a guided tour. You will see famous buildings such as the State Opera, Schönbrunn Palace, and the Musikverein, from where the New Year's concert is broadcast around the world every year.Check in to your hotel and take some time to settle in and refresh.This afternoon, a visit to one of Vienna's world-class museums such as the Art History Museum, Belvedere, KunstHaus Wien, or the Hundertwasser Haus can be arranged.In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner of Austrian specialties at a local restaurant, as your tour manager previews the days ahead.

Day 3: City Center

Begin your first morning in Vienna on a walk through the city center with your tour manager to see St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Hofburg (the Habsburg dynasty's winter palace), Kärntnerstrasse, and Graben, Vienna's most famous shopping streets. You may also be interested in visiting the Mozarthaus, where Mozart once lived and wrote many of his most famous works, or the Haus der Musik, an interactive music museum.Perform an afternoon concert as part of St. Peter’s Church's well-known concert series. St. Peter's is the second oldest and most lavishly decorated church in Vienna.This evening, a chamber concert of Mozart compositions can be arranged for your group in Sala Terrena, where Mozart himself performed many times.

Day 4: Friendship Concert

This morning, you may join your tour manager on a visit the Central Cemetery, which contains the graves of famous musicians such as Beethoven, Strauss, and Schubert.Later, transfer to a local venue to meet up with a Viennese choir and perform a friendship concert with a local ensemble for an appreciative audience. Following your performance, there will be time to socialize and get to know your hosts and members of the audience.In the evening, you may wish to attend an opera performance at the State Opera or the People's Opera.

Day 5: Village Gumpoldskirchen

This morning, enjoy a guided visit to Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburg family. During the summer months, your ensemble may perform an open-air concert on the Palace's grand staircase.In the afternoon, a visit to the Collection of Old Musical Instruments can be arranged. Alternatively, you may immerse yourself in Vienna's legendary coffee-house culture by visiting one of its old-world cafes.Later, transfer to the centuries-old wine village Gumpoldskirchen to enjoy a traditional Heurigen Dinner on your last evening in Austria.

Day 6: Depart to North America

Transfer to the Vienna Airport and depart on your flight to North America.
