Music has always been a universal language. It bridges differences and creates understanding in ways few other experiences can. At Music Contact International, we’ve seen firsthand how music travel transforms both students and directors — turning rehearsals into cultural exchanges and performances into moments of connection that last a lifetime.
The Power of Cultural Music Tours
Unlike traditional sightseeing trips, cultural music tours offer deeper engagement. Ensembles don’t just visit a destination—they become part of it. Picture your choir rehearsing alongside a local ensemble in Vienna, or your band collaborating with a youth orchestra in Barcelona. Through shared performance and dialogue, musicians learn that rhythm, harmony, and expression transcend borders.Learning Through Shared Performance
When students meet and perform with local musicians abroad, they gain musical technique and perspective. Cross-cultural collaboration builds confidence, empathy, and adaptability. Every exchange teaches the value of listening, respecting traditions, and celebrating diversity through sound. One of the best forms of experiential music learning is through our calendar of officially sponsored invitational festivals.Stories from the Road
Our past participants often say that performing abroad changed the way they understand music. One director shared, “As a choral director, I have had the privilege of partnering with MCI since 1999, forming a long and highly positive working relationship. Over the years, I have traveled with high school students on multiple tours to Austria (five times), Italy (five times), and New York City (twice). Most recently, MCI organized an Ireland tour for the adult community chorus I currently direct, and once again, they exceeded all expectations. It was a lovely mix of music with concerts in Killarney (St. Mary's Church of Ireland), Galway (St. Nicholas Collegiate Church), and Dublin (St. Patrick's Cathedral), sightseeing (organized tours and free time for individual exploration), meals (all delicious!), and unique activities (jaunting cars, sheepdog demonstration, and so many more!)”
